Witness Appeal - vandalism in Cheviot Square
The Edge in Cheviot Square was targeted by vandals on Saturday, February 27 around 9.30pm. Bricks were removed from the outside wall of the building. Witnesses reported seeing three boys and a girl pulling out the brickwork near to the roof of the building. All were wearing black clothing and were in their late teens. The girl had long dark hair.
The Edge is home to a wide variety of groups including youth groups, mother and toddler groups, alternative education and a community café. The centre has the help of around 160 volunteers running events such as band nights and drop-in services.
Jill McQuaid, chair of Winsford Community Action Project (WINCAP), which runs the centre said: "It's so disheartening to see the centre being vandalised in this way. It was set up by the community for the community and is well used. To lose it would be a devastating blow to the residents, not only in this area but across Winsford. We have to pay for these repairs and if vandalism like this continues, it could mean the centre has to close because the money would not be there to keep it open."
We would appeal for anyone with information about who was involved in causing this damage to contact us.
Theft of Copper
In recent weeks we have seen an increase in the theft of copper, be it in the form of piping or cabling. Of particular concern have been incidents in Moulton, Davenham and Allostock where overhead and underground cables have been targeted. The stripping of these types of cables could lead to a loss of telecommunications, with the possible result of calls to emergency services not getting through. If you have any suspicions regarding work being carried out in service ducts or on other service cables, please give us a call. I would rather have genuine workmen checked out than take a report of cable being stolen.
